S.T.E.M. Extension

The S.T.E.M. Extension Program is open to all 7th and 8th graders and is free to participate. The program is held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month from 3:30-5:00pm.  The goal of this program is to improve student achievement in the subjects of science and math.  The hope is that this will allow higher achieving students to receive a deeper level of enrichment hands allow lower achieving students to strengthen their skills in a smaller setting with additional aid to their understanding of concepts.  Along with other strategies, we will be using technology to correlate the subject matter being taught.  The students will complete hands-on projects that will allow them to use and strengthen their knowledge while making connections with science and math through real life applications of the curriculum.  Our hopes are to dig deeper into the curriculum than we would normally be able to do in the classroom due to time restraints.  We are going to be using the Biology-in-a-Box curriculum created by the University of Tennessee, as well as, teacher created projects that will allow for higher level thinking.  We are excited to get this started and hope you will join us in making this a success.  Students interested, should sign up with Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Parks.
